Day (5) Another jam-packed day but a good one. Left the house at 9:00 to go to the cannery to do banking and also someone was coming to pick up an order. Once we were done there, we went to the bank and then to "Lets Party" to pick up the balloons we had ordered and then to the dollar store to pick up a couple of mylar balloons because they are much cheaper there. Can you believe it they are only $1:00 at the dollar store, imagine that. Then home for a bite to eat and to wrap Emilie's presents and over to Janene's by 12:30 to help decorate. When the decorating was done we still had an hour to spare being it was 3:00 and the children were coming at 4:00 so we all relaxed because we knew that we were in for a long hour and a half with anywhere from 10 to 30 children coming. As it turned out there were 14, which was plenty and there was 5 of us to pull this off. There were 2 boys and 12 girls. Needless to say the boys had a great time, even at their age. We knew they had a great time because they all left very happy and we were all exhausted. We were invited to dinner and Emilie had chosen beef stroganoff, which was also extremly good tasting, along with rest of the dinner. After that we had the traditional cake, ice cream, and presents. Emilie was a very happy camper, with all of her new presents. It was a very fun day, however, we both came home ready for a long nights sleep.
It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 AM. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?"
He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is."
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Appreciate what you already have,
is how to get more of what you don't.
