Not a whole lot happening today.   Just some busyness and I did work out in the yard for a while.  Feels good to be getting some energy back.  But tomorrow, there is a pink lighting ceremony at the cancer center at 6:30 A.M.   Breakfast will be served right afterwards.  The first 200 people will get a T-shirt so if we go early I may be in luck.  More fun things happening later in the day.  Will talk about it tomorrow night.  Better get to bed since I have to get up at a wicked hour.

YOUR DUCK IS DEAD
A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon.  As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.  After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away.  The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"  "Yes, I am sure.  Your duck is dead," replied the vet.   "How can you be so sure?" she protested.  "I mean you haven't  done any testing on him, or anything.  He might just be in a coma or something."  The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room.  He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever.  As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the exam table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom.  He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.  The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room.  A few minutes later he returned with a cat.  The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot.  The cat sat back on it's haunches, shook it's head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.  The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."  The vet turned to his computer, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.  The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill.  "$150.00"  she cried, "$150.00 just to tell me my duck is dead!"  The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry.  If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20.00, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150.00."

Gifts I received today.  Amazing how the hat and scarf match as if they were bought together

This has been a marvelous day, so many surprises.   We had an extra lunch today with several classmates because a classmate, Gwen Childs, from out of town, was here and when that happens we have a lunch during the week and also our usual lunch, the first Sat. of every month.   Another classmate's wife, Peggy Ledford, gave me a gift from the coach store.  They have a special this month, being it is "breast cancer month.   It is a beautiful scarf and key chain, in pink.  25%  of these sales goes to the cause.   When we got home a package was in the mail from another classmate's wife, Kathy Hardtke.   This adorable cap you see in the picture.   We have an amazing class ( of 1962 ) with their amazing spouses.   It just blows my mind on how wonderful everyone is.   Who would have known, back in High School, that we would be such great friends now.   What a blessing in Bill's and my life.   This eve. we had our last dinner, with the missionaries, at the dry pack.  We were honored with a book "To The Rescue" a biography of Pres. Thomas S. Monson.  I am so excited to get started reading this beautiful book.  It will take a while, since there are many many pages.
Now you see why I said this was a marvelous day.

Had a good time today going to Shopko, Penneys, and JoAnn's, with Janene.   I have a word to say about Shopko.  The last time we were there, we said it would be the last time.  Well, I don't know what got into me going there today, but we did and this definately is the last time.  They never have what is in their sale ads or it is made very cheaply.  Now some of you might have very good experiences there and I am very happy for you but for me I will go to "Target".   :-)   Then I had my nails done today by my good friend, Gini.  She just sent her, only child, to College in Cheney.  It was a very bitter/sweet experience, she told me.   She's an amazing person, many health problems and being a single mother makes it even harder but she never complains and is such an up/beat person.  Tomorrow more fun times.
Be happy and stay strong.

We met with our Family Home Eve. group today.  Such a great group of friends.  We take turns giving a lesson out of the Bible, or Book of Mormon, or Church literature and then we chit chat a lot about nothing and everything.  We have a great time together.   After we got home Kristene, Andrew and Nicole came by so Andrew could mow.  Not very many more mowing days left but who knows with the goofy weather we are having.  I can't believe it is still in the 80's and will be for a while.   Janene's birthday is on Sat. and it is usually a little cold by then.

It's been a wonderful day,  just knowing I don't have radiation tomorrow, makes me very happy.   Talks at church were wonderful, very uplifting.   Our Bishop and his son came to Home Teach us this afternoon bringing such a sweet spirit into our home.   Next week is General Conference, I can't wait, but I guess I will have to.   We are having a very nice, quiet eve.   Bill's back is doing better and he is very happy about that fact.   Can you believe it, Oct. is almost here, just four more days.  We are in the process of getting rid of stuff and I think it will be an all winter project.  We have lived here for so long it seems easy to gather things and now a lot of it has turned into....stuff.   Things we haven't used for many, many years are headed to be filed under..G, for garbage or....GW, for Goodwill.
Have a great day!!

GENTLE THOUGHTS
The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends.    One more....
Some people try to turn back their odometers.  Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way.  I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, grape juice in the other, totally worn out and screaming....WOOO HOOOOO.  what a ride!!!

These are the two cakes Janene made for the party.  The pictures are edible.  It doesn't show in the pictures how pretty the cakes really were and also how very large.  The picture makes them look like they are lop sided but they weren't, it was just the angle that I was taking the pictures.

Diane, I wonder if your niece knows our granddaughter's boy friend?   He also goes to Southridge, (Sean Phenneger).  That really is sad they beat Kennewick.  It might happen in football also.   I want to know all about your motor coach ride to the Dakota's.  It sounds like a lot of fun.
Hi Shirley, what's up with your back?

I haven't been to a birthday party in a long time.  We went to Moses Lake today to help celebrate Sheldon Law's 80th birthday.  Most of their family was there, consisting of 8 kids and spouses and lots and lots of grandchildren and several greats and lots of friends.  Over 100 people were there.   It was so much fun, and the food,  Oh My, everything was so good.  Homemade ice cream, 4 different flavors and enough food to feed 200 people.  I felt great, it was a very good day.

Diane, it doesn't matter how you play the game just as long as you are having fun,   OK.     I didn't leave the house today, but I can't remember what I did all day.  Just a little of this and that.  I did talk to my brother for a while and that was good, always is though.  Philip came by this eve..  He is here to pick up his last load from the move and then they can get settled down in their new place.   I am now sitting next to Eric and Kareen and their friend Ashley.  Eric and Ashley came from the football game and Kennewick lost, darn.
Enjoy your day

Bill and I skied this hill, at Spout Springs, many times while we were in High School.  Great memories.

Thank you for your comments.  Yes I will keep my blog going.  Where else can I talk my head off and everyone is very quiet and listening.   :-)   We plan to celebrate when Bill's back is better and when my arm is feeling better and I have more energy.  We might go out of town for a couple of days.  Today was great, cause, I got to sleep in and in and in.  In fact we didn't have to go anywhere and so....we didn't.  Felt great to stay home and putt around the house.  I love doing that, just doing a bunch of little things.  Like, cleaned out a couple of drawers, put batteries in two clocks,  cleaned both bathrooms, laundry, shortened 4 pair of jeans, 2 for me and 2 for Kristene, and cleaned all the floors in the house and painted downstairs and washed all 3 dogs.  I hope you didn't believe the last three because, I was just kidding.  :-)   In times past I would have done all that but not now and that is OK because I am feeling good.  There is always tomorrow.  Our Granddaughter won't be able to sing tomorrow, at the assembly, because she is pretty sick and doesn't have a voice, but there will be other chances.
Enjoy your day.

Mick, I will call you tomorrow.  I got the message too late.

Pretty awesome, huh.  I plan on hanging it in a prominent place.

This, indeed, was a very good day.  I even got a hug from one of the radiation technician's.  He was always very nice and smiley.  The others were nice but always room for improvement but then aren't we all in that area of improvement.  The reality of being done hasn't sunk in yet, but I am sure it won't take me long.  We just found out that our niece's baby died.  He was born 3 months early and only weighed 1.5 lbs.  I feel so sad for her and John and the grandparents.
Tomorrow we have no definite plans and that feels sooooo....good.
Have a great day, I know I will.

This has been such a great day, not just because I only have one, did I say one, one, one, one,  more treatment.....yes I did.  I'm really not that excited.....OH yes I am.     I AM CANCER FREE.    No Dr. appointment until Oct. 6th and that is to learn how to battle Lymphedema.   This Fri. we are going to Kennewick High to hear Kareen (granddaughter) sing the "National Anthem" at their Pep Assembly.  I'm excited.  She has a beautiful voice.  Sat. we are heading to Moses Lake to help celebrate Kevin's, dad's 80th Birthday.  I know there will be a lot of Law's there, plus other family members and many friends.  They are a great family.  It will be fun.

Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY  I may have done this one before but wanted to do it again because I really like this saying.

Monday, September 20, 2010

I had, just a small moment of sadness today, but I am fine now.  I was told I had two more treatments instead of one because I missed a Monday, when we were on our vacation.  That's OK.  Just knowing I will be done this week is good enough for me.  We had our  "Family Home Eve."  lunch here today and it was great.  For over twelve years we have been meeting in the evening but we got to thinking why are we still meeting at night, so we decided to meet during the day and today was our turn for dinner, I mean lunch.  So I guess we are now calling it  "Family Home Day".  That really sounds funny so I must come up with something better to call this.

HUMOR

I take my wife everywhere....but she keeps finding her way back.

She got a mud pack, and looking great for two days.  Then the mud fell off.

Diane:  Your right about Bristol,  I hope they treat her right but I doubt it.  They already have their minds made up before she even dances.
Shirley:  I'm sure that home is for adults but if there were children living there they would have to wear life jackets all the time.

This was such a good day.  It just amazes me that I am not,  drop dead tired,  because that is what several people said I would be, long before now.  I wasn't as tired today, in church, as I have been, so maybe I could stay for Sunday School now.  Another thing I was excited about is I can fit into more of my dresses now so I don't have to wear the same thing every Sunday.  YEA!!!  I have a long  ways to go but I am working on it.  I am truly blessed.
We went over to Janene and Kevin's for dinner and of course it was wonderful.
Have a safe day.

The last fight was my fault though.  My wife asked,  "What's on the TV?"  I said, "Dust!"

A real party house with the pool in the middle.  All rooms have a sliding glass door leading out to the pool.  A real bargain at nearly $700,000.

What a fun day, got to sleep in and we had so much fun seeing such beautiful, expensive homes.  It is still fun to look at them and then come home and feel very satisfied.  One can always glean a few little ideas.  We found a cabinet color, we liked, for our kitchen and then also the tile they used on the wall.  We only saw 9 homes but that was OK because we didn't want to use up all our energy.  Amazingly though it's 10:00 P.M. and I feel pretty good.  I have a good feeling I will get my energy back pretty fast, anyway that's my plan and I'm sticken to it.
Have a great Sunday.

Friday, September 17, 2010

It is so exciting to know I can get up whenever I want, tomorrow, go where I want, do what I want and no Drs.  Only one problem, it all depends on my energy level, but that's Ok.  No matter what, it will be a good day and week-end because come Monday I will have my 29th radiation and the next day my last.  Oh! Happy Day.  Then I will start getting my energy back and we can go to "Gold's Gym".  We were thinking of going to the "Parade Of  Homes" tomorrow, but we hear it might rain, we will see.
My brain is on hold right now so I think I will have a little bowl of sherbet, that might help.
Have a great day!!

This is my stash of goodies.

Diane, I'm sorry you have a sore throat.  They can be miserable.  You need to slow down a bit so your little body can heal itself.
When I was having radiation the machine stopped working again.  I was told it takes 4 computers to make it run right and once in a while something goes wrong and they have to wait a few minutes for it to start up again.  Even the person that works on it can't figure out what the problem is and why it stops working once in a while. That's a bit scary.  I was talking to one of the patients there and she was telling me her dad, who lived in Mexico, died of cancer because they just don't have the facilities like we do.  She also said her mother was moved here because she was dying of cancer.  Very Sad.
The "Look Good...Feel Better" session, I went to today, was a lot of fun.  There were six of us and each one had a different kind of cancer and treatment.  It was fun seeing what was in our bags.  There are several different make-up companies, that donate to all cancer cntrs., that offer this program.
Tomorrow is radiation #28 then the week-end and then 2 more....I can do this.
Oh!,  I almost forgot, we did go to Costco and Bill bought me a new office chair.  It is so cute and just the right size.  The one I was using was second hand, which was fine, just too big.
Have a safe day today.

WOW!!!  26 down and 4 to go.  I am so excited I can hardly stand myself.  I almost feel like I'm starting a new life or maybe a new way of thinking, just can't figure out yet how I feel.  Anyway what ever happens it will all be for the good.
There are so many wonderful perks offered at the cancer cntr. which I have taken advantage of a few, but there is one that I haven't done yet because I was either too tired or had another Dr. appointment.  So tomorrow I get to take advantage of a two hour, how to use make-up, the right way,  facial  and on top of that we are given a container worth over $200.00 of make-up.  I hear it is fantastic.  A new facial and no place to go.  Well, maybe we will hit Costco, if there is any energy left.
I am looking forward to working out at Gold's Gym, when we have more time, which isn't far off.  I need to start exercising and get this weight off so I have some clothes to wear this winter.

Robin and I at Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah.  Another beautiful place we want to visit again.

It's me again.  Robin is just too tired to write tonight.  The radiation treatments takes a real toll on her, as the fatigueness seem to increase as time goes on.  We're down to only five more treatments and looking forward to finishing, and for Robin to start getting her energy back.

I always thought this was a cute picture.  Kevin and Emilie Law catching up on some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Went to church and then slept and slept and slept.  I think the radiation is catching up with me but happy cause I thought I would have been very sleepy long before this.  Only  "7"  to go.  When I am done there will have been a total of 30.  It really isn't that bad just having to go every day, I can think of other things to do like,....sleeping in.  I liked chemo better, only once every 3 weeks.  Tomorrow is a busy one with radiation first and earlier because it is Dr. day, then on to Physical Therapy at 12:00 and last, but not least, a visit with Dr. Rado's nurse.  Normally I would see him but he is out of town.  I'm excited because she will fill me in on what is happening next.  Thought I would give you a report on my hair.  It is now a whoppin 3/4" long, curly and very dark, I love it but nobody can see it, just not yet.
Well, my fingers are getting sleepy so will sign off until tomorrow.
Thank you everyone for following along with me on this adventure.
Thank you Diane for your daily message of encouragement.

Our Granddaughter Sam, helping us out.

With both of us laid up, we hired Sam to do some work for us.  She's a great worker, fast, concise, and doesn't charge very much and no you can't have her, she's all ours.   We have much more work for her.
Phil and Lana are on their way over before they leave, with their last load, for Bellevue, where they moved to.  Janene and Kevin were on their way to the grocery store when they called to see if we needed anything, so they are on their way over also.  Amanda just got off work so she is on her way also. Will finish this later.
Two hrs. later;  We had a great visit with every one, especially Baileigh, our great granddaughter.  She is such a cutie and of course very smart.
I think I may go to bed early, like 11:30.   :-)

It's nap time and I always have one or more of our pets on top of me.

Today has been a designated nap/time day. After radiation ( 7 to go) I had Physical Therapy and then returned home.  I tried to do a few things but was having a hard time getting the thought of a nap out of my mind.  After approx. an hour I gave in and gathered my pillows and blanket and plopped down on the davenport.  Sleep came very fast because I don't even remember getting settled.  Richard came by for a while and so I thought maybe I had enough sleep but I still felt real tired and so layed down again and woke up at 6:00.  Guess I needed the sleep because it is now 10:00 and my eyes are getting heavy so I  may have to give in to the sand man again soon.
Just a few more days of summer, so enjoy.

I don't know if that's true or not; I have been that close to one.

This was one busy day, starting with radiation (8 to go) and then I had to have my port flushed, after she drew blood.  Every four to six weeks I have to have it flushed by running saline solution through it, to keep down infection.  Several of us classmates attended a funeral today for a fellow classmate.  He died of prostate cancer which he had suffered from for several years.  It is so hard to lose one of your own knowing we are all the same age.  We have lost three of our friends this year.  It happens.
At 5:00 I had my nails done.  Usually we do this in the morning but Gini was out of town and we were out of town so my schedule got messed up.  She just found out her mother has a rare type of a lymph node cancer.  I hope I can offer support to her.
Every one, have a wonderful, safe day.

Before
After      (I'm a bag lady)

It was a busy day for us today.  Bill started his physical therapy this morning at 6:30 (too early for me).  He'll be going three times a week at 7:00, which gives him time to get home and help me before we have to go back out to the cancer center.  One more treatment down and nine to go.  We went to Target to buy a few things for my project of reorganizing my office.   I had my physical therapy at noon and I can start seeing some progress now, happy day!  Janene works on Wednesday and it is also early release for the grade schools, so we go over to her house to be there when Emilie gets home.  We came home and took a much needed nap.  After dinner I decided to jump in with both feet and tackle my project.  You should have seen me!  Hammering nails and even using a drill to drill some holes to screw in some hooks.

I tied ten ribbons on my pink bear and I will remove one each time I have another session.

One down and only 10 to go.  Happy Day!!!   I talked to Dr. Geiver today and he stated that after radiation I would be checked every three months and I could have a CAT scan or PT scan or?  In other words he is a radiation Dr. and that is his field and mostly they don't cross over.  I guess I will have to wait and talk to Dr. Rado ( chemo Dr. ) to see what's next.  I do know, I will get my port out in a year and then I will really be done....for good, and then we will have a big celebration.  Bill had an appointment with his Dr. today and tomorrow an appointment with Ken Call ( Physical Therapist )  at 6:30 A.M.  Way too early for me.
Have a safe day.

Our little Pieper chasing her tail.

It was so nice to sleep in this morning. Tomorrow back to the regular routine.  Kristene brought Andrew over to help with yard work. He is saving his money to buy something special.  He already has saved $500.00 and needs $70.00 more.  I know, you are wondering what is he getting for that much money, well I will put a picture of it on my blog when it comes in.  You will never guess so don't even try.  Bill had him edge and mow the lawn and he did a really good job. He will get to do our yard work for the rest of the season due to Bill's back, not working so well ,at this time. Did you notice I said "get to".   I had some energy today so I cleaned my office a little, did 4 loads of wash and cleaned the cat box, boy did it need it.   Bill started working on cleaning out the shed, with Kristene's help.  This is labor day...so...we labored all day.

WE ARE ALWAYS SETTING AN EXAMPLE

The light turned yellow, just in front of him.  He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup.
As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.  The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up.
He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.
After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door.  She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.
He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake.  You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you and cussing a blue streak at him.  I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally.... I assumed you had stolen the car."
Priceless

I'm ready for Disneyland again and I'm going to ride on this roller coaster, since I chickened out last time.

This has been a very quiet, simple, relaxing day.  First church, which was wonderful, home, lunch and then I kept falling asleep while reading the paper so stopped fighting it and took a nice nap.  I wish you could see my little Maltese, Pieper, when she senses I am about to take a nap.  She jumps on the bed and starts hopping all over the place.  It's almost as if she is saying, Oh, goody, goody I get to nap with you and then she just cuddles right up next to me.  That's the only time she is allowed on the bed.  Later Bill and I were talking and decided to do a lot of de-junking around here.  We just have way too much...stuff.  We have 2600 sq. ft. of space and every bit of it is filled.  We figured, we have the room, so why get rid of it, even if we haven't used the item since we moved back here in 1978.  You know the old saying "we might need it some day".  Goodwill, here we come!!
Have a fun and safe Labor Day.  You know what we will be doing.  We figure it will take about 6 months to accomplish our goal.

Madeline

Julia

Today was awesome!! Kristene and family came by for a while.  Then we met  our classmates for our monthly lunch date, which is always fun and uplifting.  This afternoon we had a wonderful visit with family members from Richland and Seattle. They were, our sister-in-law Lynn from Richland, her daughter, Jenny and husband Aaron, and her two grand-daughters, Madeline ( 4 ) and Julia ( 2 ), from Seattle.  Janene, Kevin and family were here also. We had a fun time visiting with everyone.  Their little girls are adorable.  To us they are our grand-neices.
It was just a very fun and relaxing day.

I don't feel old.  I don't feel anything until noon.  Then it's time for my nap.

I'm really afraid of this voo-do guy.

Today was a very good day for both of us.  I had my usual treatment and then an appointment with Dr. Fischer.  My arm has marked improvement.  Happy Day!!   I only have 11 more treatments and then I will be done with radiation. I'm very excited, not that everyone is very nice, cause they are but I won't miss anyone.  Bill might miss not doing the puzzles though.  After that I don't have a clue as to what is next.  Maybe I will ask my Dr. when I see him on Tues.  It is so warm this eve., and then cool tomorrow.  Silly weather.
Have a safe three day week-end.

A good nap is always healthy.

Robin's morning started at 6:40 awakening her because she was having heart palpations so she took a tranquilizer to help her relax and reduce the palpations.  At 9:00 she took another tranquilizer because the first one do anything.  She was feeling very weak so I took her blood pressure and it was 119/86 and a heart rate of 161.  When she arrived at the Cancer Center she asked the nurse to take her vitals again, which were then 100/78 and a pulse of 142.  The nurse said it sounded like a little choo choo train and told her to call her primary physician and lay down and relax the rest of the day, which she did.
I just checked it again and currently it is 117/59 and apulse of 77.  She is feeling better.  Tomorrow she has her radiation treatment in the morning followed with an appointment with Dr. Fischer.  Her arm is doing about the same, but thinks that the physical therapy might be starting to help.

New Update:  Bill came home this afternoon with very little pain because he had a procedure done.  Yay!!!   The procedure consisted of rolling him in his bed to get a cat scan, rolled him up to the machine and rolled him onto his stomach, very painful, and then did a CS and brought him back out.  Gave him a series of shots to deaden the area in the small of his back so they could insert larger needles.  Then back into the machine so they can see exactly where to put the needles, 4 on the right and 2 on the left of his spine.  Once they were inserted, they administered steroids and long term pain killers in hopes that by the time the pain killers wear off (approximately 2 weeks) the steroids will have shrunk the enlarged area.  We certainly hope this works.  We don't know what will happen if it doesn't work.  Guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it.  Bottom line, we are both sitting here feeling great.

CHILDREN'S SCIENCE EXAM
